History & Trajectory

Founded in 1936 by Professor Miguel Ángel Castro Carazo, the university began with business-focused programs that empowered generations of Costa Ricans to grow through education. Recognized internationally as early as 1947, it steadily evolved—achieving full university accreditation in 1996.

Today, with a main campus in San José and regional sites across Costa Rica, Universidad Castro Carazo continues to embody its founder’s values of service, ethical professionalism, and personal growth. Guided by this humanist philosophy, the university integrates sustainability, innovation, and leadership development into every program—most notably through pioneering initiatives like La Marta Wildlife Refuge.
